coworking environment with nature at its core

Spaces Wonderwoods

For our client, IWG, we designed two floors of co-working space and flexible offices as an integral part of a mixed-use development. Wonderwoods is  conceived to be an icon of the Utrechtse Beurskwartier, with nature at its core. A total of 35,000 different plant species will be planted on top and inside the two towers of Wonderwoods, including 300 trees.
This green oasis will produce 40,000 kilos in oxygen per year, restoring biodiversity for thirty different animal species. Wonderwoods is on walking distance from the Central Station. Bs;bp’s 4,900 m2 project comprises a third of the total workspaces area in Wonderwoods. It is due for completion in 2023.

The challenge

Wonderwoods is designed to re-establish urban biodiversity, with nature at its core. Here living, working and relaxation come together. The two mixed-use towers, 70 and 104 meters tall, are designed as a green urban oasis.

For our design team, when working for such an impactful building we have the responsibility to create an impactful and high-end interior that fits it.

The solutions

We wanted to create the feeling that people are surrounded by nature, while at work. We integrated vegetation in the design and we used various types of wood.

Fellow designer, Ronald van Vlijmen, looks at the design from a technical point of view. How it will be built and what can be more efficient construction wise. His involvement is also key during the design phase. We work together along the whole journey.

We used natural materials as much as possible, taking into account the impact of the materials and products we select. For us an important aspect of sustainability is to create a good design. If you create an interior with a nice atmosphere, functional and timeless, it can last for many years. Because people enjoy the space, they are willing to maintain it. We also select quality materials that will serve their purpose for a long time without being damaged. This way, we ensure the interior will last a long time, and that makes it very sustainable.

For us an important aspect of sustainability is to create a good design. Interior with a nice atmosphere, functional and timeless can last for many years because people like it and are willing to maintain it.
